Promotes the re-imagining of the schooling experience for boys and young men of color. A networked learning community of educators, researchers, policy-makers and caring adults. They support school leaders with high quality professional development so they can realize this vision of making success an attainable goal for every male student of color.
Founded in 1996, the Gurian Institute is committed to helping boys and girls reach their full potential by providing professional development that increases student achievement, teacher effectiveness, and parent involvement.
Dr. Wilda V. Heard, or "Dr. Wilda," has a J.D. from Yale Law School and a doctorate in education leadership from Seattle University. She is a volunteer at Legal Voice, formerly the Northwest Women's Law Center. Dr. Wilda writes about schools, education reform, and the effect the culture has on education, children, and families.

Rick is a certified trainer with the Gurian Institute. He is a trained facilitator of "Positive Steps", a juvenile first offender program developed by the Dallas Police Dept. In addition, Rick has training from the Gallup Organization in the "Teacher Perceiver".
Promotes positive male development through forums that inform and advocate for policy, practice and research to support integrated systems change in areas of health, education, and social well-being.
This newsletter presents a fact-based, objective picture of the health, educational, and emotional status of boys in Santa Fe, New Mexico -- and in the United States. "We hope our newsletter becomes a forum for others to share their concerns, enthusiasms, and successes about sons, students, or friends by encouraging those with an interest in this subject–boys, fathers, mothers and others–to write about them."
